March Meeting: Property Tax Grievances

The March chapter meeting will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 6:00 pm  at Pal's Cabin in West Orange, NJ. The Executive Meeting is scheduled for 6:00 pm followed by Dinner at 7:00. The guest speaker is William H. Merdinger, ASA, President of the Long Valley, NJ firm of Dickinson & McCormick, Inc., who will talk about "Residential and Commercial Property Tax Grievances."

propertytaxes[1] Mr. Merdinger, who took his B.S. at Rutgers, has been active in real estate appraising since 1970.  A Certified Tax Assessor, he has served as Assessor for several New Jersey Townships, including Belleville, Glen Ridge and Mansfield, and has consulted for or been an expert witness for others.  His published and delivered papers include "Equalization in the Federal Courts," "Tax Abatements," "Business Enterprise Zones," and the "Newark Revaluation Impact."  Mr. Merdinger has also taught real estate fundamentals and specific valuation subjects for Rutgers, the NJ State Association of Assessors and elsewhere.

FREE April Meeting: Economic and Investment Outlook


The April chapter meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 6:00 pm  at Pal's Cabin in West Orange, NJ. The Executive Meeting is scheduled for 6:00 pm followed by Dinner at 7:00. The guest speaker is G. Scott Clemons, Chief Investment Strategist for Brown Brothers Harriman’s Wealth Management Business, who will talk about the 2011 Economic and Investment Outlook for business, real estate and other investments.

Mr. Clemons, who received his BA in Classics magna cum laude from Princeton University, joined Brown Brothers Harriman in 1990.  He has held a variety of roles within BBH's investment management business, including as an analyst and portfolio manager of European and ClemonsAsian equities, based both in New York and London, and as a lead manager of domestic equity management.  A Chartered Financial Analyst, and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and the CFA Institute, he is the firm's primary writer and speaker on topics related to the financial markets and wealth management.  Mr. Clemons sits on the advisory boards of the Morgan Library and Museum, the Princeton University Library, the Grolier Club, and the Getty Research Institute. He is also a director of the Research Corporation, America's oldest foundation dedicated to the advancement of science.

The program qualifies for one hour of ASA Continuing Education Credit. The Dinner Fee of $30 person is waived for ASA Northern New Jersey Chapter members.
