February Meeting: Business Valuation

The February chapter meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Pal's Cabin in West Orange, NJ. Steven J. Nappen, CPA/ABV The Board Meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. The guest speakers are Chapter candidate Steven J. Nappen, CPA/ABV of Friedman, LLP in East Hanover, and Susan Miano, CPA/ABV, who will discuss Current Thinking on the Cost of Capital, and Standards of Value. Mr. Nappen is a past president of the New Jersey Society of CPAs. A frequent speaker at business, professional and accounting seminars, his expertise includes mergers and acquisitions, sales and financing, and litigation support.

2006 Changes to USPAP

The February meeting of NYC Chapter 30 will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Connolly's Pub & Restaurant. The guest speaker will be Paula Konikoff, J.D., MAI, whose topic is 2006 Changes to USPAP: The Demise of Departure. The program qualifies for one hour of ASA Continuing Education Credit. Paula Konikoff is an independent real estate appraiser and consultant whose practice focuses on the valuation of commercial, industrial and mixed use properties for litigation, arbitration and due diligence. An Urban Land Institute advisor, she is also Vice Chair of the Appraisal Standards Board (ASB) of the Appraisal Foundation. Ms. Konikoff, who holds a B.S. from Temple University and a J.D. from Villanova, will provide an overview of changes to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) for 2006. She will also give an update on the Scope of Work Project and other ASB activities.

USPAP Course

USPAP instructor John D. Willey, FASANorthern New Jersey ASA Chapter 73 will offer the 15 hour Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) course on Friday and Saturday, January 13 and 14, 2006 at the Meadowlands Plaza Hotel located at 40 Wood Ave, Secaucus, NJ 07094-2907 (Telephone: 201-422-0200). It will be conducted by noted ASA instructor, John D. Willey, FASA.
