Personal Property Symposium: Historic Innovation in Gardens and Interiors

The Devenish Group, an International Arts and Design community, is sponsoring a Symposium -- Uncovering American Roots: Historic Innovation in Gardens and Interiors -- at The Inn at Lambertville Station, 11 Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ 08530 on Saturday October 27, 2012 from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm.

The Symposium features illustrated presentations by Professor Louise Devenish, left, who will talk about "Washington and Jefferson: The Quest for Practical and Fashionable Furnishings for Mount Vernon and Monticello," and by Andrea Wulf, bestselling author and garden historian, talking about "Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature and the Shaping of the American Nation."  The Symposium, which includes luncheon at the historic Inn on the banks of the Delaware River, will introduce you "to the parallel histories of agriculture and domestic innovations between Great Britain and America at the birth of our nation."

Ms. Devenish, who founded the eponymous Devenish Group, is an ASA appraiser specializing in American and English decorative arts.  She teaches Antiques Connoisseurship and Appraisal Studies in the certificate programs at Parsons School of Design and New York University.  Ms. Wulf, who  trained as a design historian, is the author of several books, including Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation. She has written for The New York Times, The LA Times, Wall Street Journal, the Sunday Times and The Guardian.
